Are you using your TOOLS?

Garten 110

No matter what situation you find yourself experiencing in life, there is a tool required to successfully overcome it. And the unfortunate thing is that many people get in the thick of the situation and realize that they have no idea how to use the tools available to them.

A tool is defined as “a device or implement, especially one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function”. Doctors have tools. Lawyers have tools. Architects have tools. Builders have tools. Writers have tools. Artists have tools. Everyone who creates in this world has TOOLS. And that includes YOU!

What would happen if a doctor had the instruments available to sew up your wound, yet had no idea how to use it? That is what many of us look like in the spiritual realm. God has provided us with every possible resource to live a prosperous and abundant life. We pray and ask for His help and when it provides it, we do nothing with it. Why is that? Well, here are a few that I have come to understand:

We don’t know what a tool is

We don’t know we have them

We don’t believe in them

Let’s unpack each one of these…

WE DON’T KNOW WHAT A TOOL IS

When we look at a hammer, we know that it is used to hit something else with. When we look at a ruler, we know that it is used to measure distance with. But, let’s consider for a moment that you didn’t know these basic things. What if you used the hammer to cook with, or used the ruler as an instrument? Is it possible to use these tools for these purposes? Yes. Is this the correct, intended use? No. Will the benefits be the same? No. The same is true for the spiritual tools provided for us by God. The tools of our spoken word, our faith, and the power in our beliefs.

Our spoken word has the ability to create. We are made in God’s image and He created EVERYTHING with the spoken word. And if we are unaware that our words create our reality, we will mindlessly speak words that we do not really want to manifest – “I can’t handle this!” or “I wish everyone would leave me alone!”. Consciously, we know this is not what we want, but the subconscious mind has NO sense of humor and will take this repetitive statement as fact. The misuse of this valuable tool will yield results that touch every area of your life.

WE DON’T KNOW WE HAVE THEM

Have you ever met someone who was a billionaire and didn’t know it? They are living a regular life, doing regular things with regular people. They expect regular things to happen in their lives and don’t really expect much from themselves and others. Then, one day, the message is delivered that they are actually wealthy and all their funds have been in an account awaiting their authorization to release it! Can you image that? Everything you could POSSIBILITY need has always been available to you yet, you did not know you had access. Well, that is the majority of the people walking on the Earth. One thing you MUST understand – there is NO LACK with God. If you are living a life in alignment with His will, you have NO lack. I understand that the natural world around you may say something different, but that is not the truth. The truth is this world is abundant and we need only ask and believe to receive what we desire. But, when we have not done the work to discover these truths, we walk through this life as a unaware billionaire.

WE DON’T BELIEVE IN THEM

I believe that this position is the worst of them all. Ignorance can be shifted with revelation and reception of truth. There is very little to be done with rejection of truth when it is rooted in hurt and lack of understanding. You may hear many people proclaim, “It’s not that deep! You don’t need to do all of that.” Many people do not believe that the actions they take and the words they speak have lasting impact on the world around them – including family and friends. They accept a belief that their actions only impact themselves and no one should care what they do. They see no connection between themselves and their neighbor and they end up missing out on the beauty of connection. When a door is closed, you should not force it open – especially when it has been closed on purpose. Forcing open a closed-door damages not only the door, but the thing used to force it open! Leave the information at the door and believe that one day, they will open it and let the information in.

So as you are walking out your journey in life, figure out what tools you need in order to live the life you desire. It does not just ‘happen’…there is WORK to be done once you have activated your FAITH to BELIEVE it is POSSIBLE!

Returning…

After being away from writing for some time, I woke up this morning with a strong desire to write. Not that I have not BEEN writing, but my intentions for writing changed briefly and I began to wonder why. Why would I stop doing something that brought me fulfillment and purpose? As I began to ponder these thoughts, I began reflecting over the last few months of my life.

My 40th year has been a BIG one! Not just because for the obvious reasons, but because this is the year when all the masks were ripped off and the layers of paint stripped away. It was a year of discovery, revelation and exposure…for myself and the people connected to me.

exposure

It is a strange space to be in…all that you believed to be true is now on this examining table being poked and prodded. WHO told me that what I desired was impossible? WHO convinced me that living ‘just above surviving’ was God’s best for me?

The dreams you had for yourself have now been exposed as imposters. WHO convinced me that sitting at a desk making someone else’s bank account grow was my purpose? WHO told me that business was not for me? WHEN did I dream these ‘dreams’?

The reflection in the mirror is now shown to be an image of someone you never really knew and wonder how she got there! WHEN did I start believing that health and wellness was for ‘them’ and not for me? WHO told me that I could never break my addiction to sugar? WHY did ‘she’ look like a stranger after 40 years?

I am sitting on my deck right now admiring the beautiful sky, smelling the grills of neighbors begin to smoke and listening to the birds all around me ( and some AC condensers as well!)  I am grateful for the life that I get to live…at least now I am. This time last year, I had a new house FULL of people and I felt alone…I felt unknown and unsure. To look at me, you would never know it, but I was just a shell. I was a shell of unknown potential and power just existing in time.

I thought I had DIRECTION for my life, but it was just DESPERATION. I was desperate to be in a different space than I was the year before because I could not bear another year of the same.

I thought I had PURPOSE for being alive, but it was just PANIC. I did not want to die before my time so, I grabbed for anything that I could connect with that would seem to make a difference in the world…even if I was not passionate about it. At least I was doing ‘SOMETHING’.

seven-ways-to-make-the-devil-flee__medium

Can you relate to any of this? I’m sure I am not alone out here…

One month after my 40th birthday, I made an investment in my wellbeing. I decided to allow someone to coach and teach me how to bring out who I truly am. To learn how to discover ‘Dawn’. And of course, I was skeptical and doubting and worrisome and concerned. I thought to myself, “What can YOU teach me that I can’t discover on my own??” I very quickly discovered that the answer to that arrogant question was ‘A LOT”! The level of unbelief I lived in for 40 years was UNBELIEVABLE! As I write this now, I am amazed that I managed this long with it! But, I am aware of the reason …grace! It was the grace of God that kept me as I journeyed the path to self. The path that would confirm what He has been trying to get me to believe for so long.

wake-up-call-500x333

One thing you MUST understand. You will never live the life of your dreams if you don’t first BELIEVE in the POSSIBILITY of that life. You can dream about it, talk about, create vision boards of it and pray on it. All great things to do! BUT, none of it matters without belief. And not just belief that is real…but belief in the possibility of it being real for YOU! Are you one of those people who can believe great things for the lives of others, but not yourself? (I’m raising my own hand!) That was me! I could see the greatness in others, yet doubt the greatness that GOD placed within me. Not based on my schooling, career accomplishments, parental successes or health goals….but pure blessing from a loving Creator. That sounds crazy but it is so common among so many woman between the ages of 25-45. There’s something about that age range…we are believing for greatness, but doubting ourselves at the same time. Double mindedness will get you NOWHERE and that is where my life was at that time…nowhere. And I desired more for myself and my family.

Today, the woman I am is an answer to YEARS of desperate prayer…the ones I attached strong belief to. I asked GOD to end the cycle of poverty, lack and sickness with me. That it would not go past me into the next generation. I was a new mom when that prayer was spoken and today my 16-year-old son amazes me with his mindset, belief and personality. He is so comfortable in his own skin and has definite goals, dreams and desires for his future. And he WILL achieve them! I firmly believe that my desire to shift and renew my mind and the WORK I put in to make it a reality changed the course of our lives. Not because I handled everything well, but because God is gracious and faithful to hear our hearts and respond to our faith.

I have emerged from the basement of my life to fully embody this vessel I have been blessed with. I am confident that the words that I speak and write will be a blessing to all who read and listen. I am confident that I have a gift to give that no one else can deliver. I believe that I am the one to do it for the people assigned to my path and I invite you to journey along with me!

Do You Want to Get Well? Take Positive Action!

Today, we continue this journey through a very motivational scripture in the Bible. We will discuss the next step – Take positive action!

“Jesus told him, ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!’ Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking!” John 5:8-9a

Walking

This week, we are talking about taking positive action. After hearing the excuses and knowing that this man has a life that does not match his reality just waiting for him to receive, Jesus SPOKE direct, sharp words of instruction:

Stand up

Pick up

Walk!

Let’s break down these 3 steps and apply them to your our life.

Stand up

There comes a time in your wellness journey when you realize that ‘enough is enough!’ I have been in this position long enough and I want MORE! Have you ever taken a ride down the “Lazy River” in an amusement park? You just allow the flow of the river to take you where IT wants to take you. Now, imagine that your child has gotten too far away from you and you want to get closer to them quickly. What do you do? YOU STAND UP! You want to go from where you are to where you want to be immediately, right?

Friend, I have to share this very plainly…

You have been sitting down accepting the ebb and flow of the lazy river of life. When you are ready to go a different direction, you make a conscious decision and plant your feet and your faith for this shift. This man, who was an invalid for 38 years and living in the place where healing is stirred, DECIDED that today was the day his healing would come. I know he decided because he stepped out of his comfort zone and stood up after lying by the pool most of his life. He took positive action!

Pick up

What has been your crutch for most of your life? What is that thing that you have leaned on to support your lack of action? For this man, it was his bed perfectly positioned by the Pool of Bethesda. He was close enough to the pool, yet just far enough to make excuses for his lack of effort. Personally, I have used my lack of knowledge in a particular subject to be my crutch – “I can’t do business because I don’t know marketing! Everyone else knows so much more than me!”  The truth is – I can do business and be successful because I have DECIDED to learn more about marketing and perfect my craft. I have decided to take that comfortable fear and keep moving forward with it. This invalid picked up his sleeping mat (his crutch) and moved forward from his old place of comfort towards his new belief system.

Walk

When you close your eyes and imagine your ideal life, what do you see? How far off is that vision from your physical reality? That gap, however large or small, is your walk! In order to walk, you need belief, direction and confidence. All of these components are within you right now. There is NO THING you need to wait for and NO ONE to wait on! Just walk…

Thirty-eight years is a very long time to allow excuses and fear to shape your life…

One day is too long to allow excuses and fear to shape your life…

And in an instant…

Chance encounters are never by chance! Last night, while listening to an online class on essential oils (you can email me for more on that!), I connected the dots of my health and healing journey in a very random way. I tell you…Being available and teachable will bless your life!

The presenter for this class shared her personal healing journey and as I sat and listened, I knew I had to connect with her directly! She is on the other side of my current challenges and I want freedom from them! I stayed up very late to listen to the entire class with the intention of messenging her afterwards to ask for assistance. As I gathered from the class, she was willing and available to talk. I absolutely love people who are passionate about people!

We finally connected on the phone in the midst of her mommy duties and my work schedule. I shared how I enjoyed her class and felt like we had a similar health and healing journey. She began to share more with me about her challenges and struggles and how she used natural remedies but our shared challenge was a direct result of diet choices. As I jotted down notes and suggestions, I began to smile. Not because I was happy about the restrictive and challenging lifestyle I was about to enter, but because for the first time in 10 years, I did not feel like a standalone wierdo! Someone else experienced my unique pains, fears and frustrations and OVERCAME THEM! It was totally possible to be free and clear of this dis-ease within my body.

Do you know how frustrating and defeating it is to life with a health challenge that is bothersome enough to impact your daily life YET not ‘serious’ enough to warrant alarm from those around you? You are tempted to devalue your discomfort and push aside your pain. Today, I was able to reach out (virtually) and lock arms with a fellow overcomer! And yes, I said ‘fellow’ because I have overcome this challenge already! By unwavering faith, I declare it done.

It is impossible to overcome alone. Two are better than one as the Bible states and a cord of three is not easily broken. My Father and my friends will keep me accountable and focused on keepongy promise to live a sacred, whole and healed life. It is my birthright and I will accept nothing less EVER again. It is my time! And, I believe there is someone reading this post who knows that it is their time as well.

So what is it for you?

Committing to your health?

Healing your relationships?

Finally starting that business you dreamed about?

Releasing debt and building your wealth legacy?

Spiritual connection with your Creator?

What is it TIME for you to commit fully to accomplishing or overcoming?

In an instant, when you have made up your mind to take the first step, your answer will be presented to you.

Let’s DO it and FINISH it in 2017!

Do You Want to Be Well – Excuses…

Let’s continue our talk on the topic, “Do you want to be well?” Last post, we touched on the condition in which the Messiah found a lame man at the Pool of Bethesda and the compassion He showed as He asked, “Do you want to be well?” Now, here is the response:

“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” – John 5: 7

pool

Have you ever listened to someone that only complains about what others will or will not do for them? Or have you had a conversation with a person who does not see their own faults, yet can clearly define the faults of others? How do you feel about  this person? I often think of this verse when I am in the midst of those who can only see what they do not have. Although I understand the human limits of our natural vision, we must see farther than that! We must yearn to see the truth beyond our natural reality.

new-mindset-new-result

Sometimes, I believe we lack faith because we don’t know our worth. Think about it…

The Messiah sees your condition and knows the pain of your journey. He comes to you specifically and directly asks you a simple question. You do not answer the question, but instead you complain about not having help to get healing.

You were offered healing…

Yet, you rejected the invitation to be healed.

Doesn’t that sound silly? Who would ever do that?! Do any of these scenarios sound familiar:

Have you ever purchased exercise equipment only to never use it more than once?

Have you ever registered for a training course to further your business only to cancel it days before because the travel is too inconvenient?

Have you ever purchased vitamins and supplements that would support your health journey yet never actually taken them?

These are all examples of ways you were offered healing, yet rejected the invitation to receive the actually healing. You wanted it, but didn’t desire it. Wanting does not require commitment or responsibility…it is very close to wishing. But desire! That is a totally different thing. Desire is ignited when you have accepted the truth that IT IS POSSIBLE and then take action to acquire it. The lame man only wanted to be healed before Messiah came into his life…it was just a wish with no real possibility of possession.

belief

As I continue to study these scriptures, I realized that one very important shift occurred. This man initially heard ‘a man’ asking a basic question. He did not realize WHO this man was and the authority He possessed. Once that connection was made, he did not hesitate to believe that his deepest desire was possible! He acted and believed and WALKED!

Excuses are directly tied to your level of belief. They are fueled by a deep seated doubt within your heart that only God can expose, remove and replace with power and purpose. Take some time today to think back on areas in your life where you make excuses for not believing. You know exactly what I am talking about! Now, what is one thing can you do right now to believe that it is possible and WALK towards it?

I will back back next week to discuss the next phase in the wellness journey – TAKE POSITIVE ACTION.

Until next time….

Do you want to get well?

“One man had been an invalid for 38 years. When Jesus saw him stretched out by the pool and knew how long he had been there, He said, “Do you want to get well?” – John 5:5-6

pool-of-bethesda-949739-print

The Pool of Bethesda…a connection point between the sick and healing. A place where those who were broken, ill and rejected went to be well. I have been reflecting on this scripture and have learned some powerful lessons from it. Ironically, this lesson started 2 years ago on my 38th birthday…

In that year, I reached the point where I knew a change was needed in my life, yet I did not know how to get started. Notice, I didn’t say I didn’t know WHAT to do…I did not know HOW to get started. Does that sound familiar? Many of us have a pretty good idea of what needs to be done to start shifting the course of our lives. The challenge is in us taking action to simply start! My personal solution at that time was the same as Jesus’ direction to this lame man…”Get up and walk!” For 30 consecutive days, I walked 2 miles a day. When I felt tired, the weather shifted or I just didn’t want to do it, I got up and walked! And it changed my entire life! So, what about you? What tools will you use to “Get up and walk”? What is something that you know to do yet, are struggling with the ‘how’? I challenge you to start small and be consistent. The life you desire and envision is possible!

I will be unpacking this topic over the next few weeks with tips to walk in your wellness. Join me again next week as I start from the beginning and discuss lessons I received from verses 2-14.

Choose wisely and be INTENTIONAL with your day!

…Blessings!

Just ask…

This week, I asked for something very specific. I asked God to allow me to encourage, love and help someone everyday…to be a connection point between them and Him. Each day, I asked to be positioned to be a blessing and it happened! I was given opportunities to speak words of encouragement, plant seeds of hope and shed light where darkness once covered. It filled my tank and allowed me to rest each night knowing that I made a difference in someone’s life.

fb_img_1482930736396

Being granted the chance to be in this position showed me that if I desire something, all I need to do are three simple things: ask, believe and go.

ASK

ASk

Growing up, I was not big on asking for what I wanted/needed. I saw asking as a burden and a bother. I preferred to assume others knew what I wanted and would just give it to me. I didn’t want it known that I needed anything. How absurd is that! But, how many of us are still doing that very thing? How many times have you desperately needed help and you chose to suffer in the shadows because stepping into the light was too risky. The biggest lesson I ever learned in my adult years is this: Embrace vulnerability! It is not a sign of weakness. It is not naivety. It is not emotionally irresponsible. Embracing vulnerability is a sign of strength, maturity and wisdom. It is the key to asking because it requires trust. When I pray to God and ask for the opportunity to be a blessing in someone’s life, I am trusting that God knows my capacity to share and give love to another and that my heart will be safe in this situation. In order to ask for what you desire, you must trust the one you are asking.

Believe

belief

Once you ask for a thing, do you immediately think, “Well, let’s see if this will work.”? If you do, you should probably stop expecting to get what you asked for. Asking is an act of faith. Faith and doubt cannot occupy the same space – one will cancel out the other. This week, when I asked to be a blessing, I did not doubt the possibility. I did not question my worthiness of receiving this blessing. I believed immediately and thanked God for it in advance! What do you need to believe for in your life? What have you asked and are now doubting? Explore that area and renew your commitment to your ‘ask’.

Go

stepintolight

For me, this is the step that tells the most about your level of belief. You can go and do the good you desire to do when you believe it is possible. Stepping out and remaining open to receiving your ‘ask’ brings me so much joy! The confidence that rises from going forward in faith will impact every other area of your life. Asking and believing without action is ineffective and a sign of doubt. For years, I would ask, believe it was possible and do nothing! I just waited for something to happen and most of the time, nothing did. Now, I fully understand that my ability to receive what I have asked for is connected to my willingness to step out there and do something!

storm1

Are you willing to be vulnerable enough to ask for what you desire, believe you will receive it and then go step out in faith towards that thing?

Just ask…

Are you Exceptional?

War is not exceptional; peace is.   Worry is not exceptional; trust is. Decay is not exceptional; restoration is. Anger is not exceptional; gratitude is. Selfishness is not exceptional; sacrifice is. Defensiveness is not exceptional; love is. And judgementalism is not exceptional…But grace is. – excerpt from Unoffendable

According to Merriam Webster, exceptional is defined as “deviating from the norm”. This deviation creates a divide that is so stark that it can rarely go unnoticed.

When I read those words in a book by Brant Hansen, I had to put the book down and just reflect on what he said. Many times as we watch the news and hear of all the terrible and heartbreaking events happening around the world, we immediately marvel at just how unimaginable it is. But, I began to question those reactions…

Is it really unimaginable to see nation’s against nation’s over people, places and things?

Is it really unimaginable that one American can hate and murder another American because of their differences? Is it really unimaginable that empathy is slowly being erased from the consciousness of humanity in favor of narcissism?

It is not…

But, what his statements challenged me to see were the amazingly passionate, loving and humble acts of every day people towards another that dispels all fear, hatred and pain. In the midst of the ashes of a wounded world, pockets of healing are emerging… Exceptional, undeniable healing of a hurting humanity. And then, I brought my perspective to a smaller level and asked the question, ‘Are YOU exceptional, Dawn?’

When someone offers you judgement, do you extend grace? When met with ignorance and hate, do you extend the opportunity to expand understanding? When hated, do you love? Those would be exceptional responses to everyday interactions…But would I choose to do it? Would my emotions, expectations and personal beliefs hinder me from responding exceptionally?

The answer is yes.

What I have recently realized is that when my mind is set on ‘me over you’ it is impossible to exist in a space of love and peace. I will always be in a state of war that is defensive, combative and untrusting.

Love and peace… Exceptional

War, combat, untrusting…The norm.

Breaking out of the norm will take daily, intentional actions. Here are 3 ways that I set my mind to chose being exceptional over normal:

Remain sober minded

I remind myself that my actions impact the people around me. This quick sanity check helps me to remain grounded and not elevate myself above another or lower myself beneath them. Each of those postures will manifest in my life in ways that are detrimental to my purpose and calling.

Remember who I am

Every morning, I look in the mirror and tell myself who I am before anyone else has the opportunity to do it. I affirm my value, purpose and necessity on this Earth and establish the truths that will be my foundation for the day. When I know who I am, the comments and opinions of others will not destroy my spirit. It will provide me the opportunity to respond in an exceptional manner than can diffuse all anger, hate and fear.

Know that I always have a choice

Realizing that every comment does not warrant my response keeps me in a position of power. Just because a person speaks words of hurt does not mean I need to respond to it verbally. I can choose to pray for the person. I can perform a random act of kindness for them knowingly or unknowingly. I can choose to not be offended and share love instead. I always have a choice, and so do you!

So, I challenge you to take the stance to live an exceptional life. Start with one day of choosing to respond in love no matter what anyone says or does. Then, extend it out to a week. Eventually, it will be a month later and you will have peace of mind like never before! Understand this – it is against the norm, which means opposition will appear. But, that is where choice comes in…And you always have a choice!

Choose wisely and Be EXCEPTIONAL!

Living Our Habits

Have you ever walked into a room that had the lights turned off and upon walking out, reached for the light switch?

Have you ever gone into the bathroom to wash your hands at home and just stood there waiting for the water to turn on automatically?

Have you ever responded, “I’m good, thank you!” to someone who greeted you with “Good Morning”?

autopilot-1

Each of these scenarios depicts a person who is living out their habits and not living in the moment. This person is not truly present in their day to day activities and they are living on autopilot.

How did we get so distracted in our day to day lives? How can a parent forget their child when leaving a store? I know that example is hard to think about, but we have been seeing it more and more. And this disconnection is steadily deteriorating the quality of relationships and communication within humanity. I noticed this disconnect within myself and decided to do something about it. Today, I want to share 3 tips to get you reconnected to the world around you.

Just Breathe…

Inhale

Sounds simply enough, right? But there are times when we actually stop breathing while engrossed in a task. Taking intentional, deep breaths, we provide our body with the necessary oxygen to think clearly and creatively. Try it right now…Inhale for 4 counts..hold in for 4 counts..now, exhale for 4 counts. Do it again…How do you feel? A little less stressed and grounded I would suspect. Couple this exercise with the application of a calming essential oil blend, candles or a beautiful outdoor setting and you have just created a healing ritual that will greatly improve you overall wellness!

Write it down…DAILY!

Essay-Writing-980x606

Daily, intentional actions guarantee a change in your life – this has been proven time and time again. Now, it doesn’t guarantee positive changes…Positive changes are the results of positive actions or seeds as I like to call them. We have all heard of the quote “You will reap what you sow” and we understand that it is true. A farmer will never harvest apples in the fall if he/she never planted apple seeds in the spring! It is LAW. So, the same concept holds true for mental and spiritual seeds. You want to turn off autopilot, so you need to intentionally sow seeds of presence! Set a goal and accomplish it in the time established! Create a gratitude journal and commit to writing down 3 things every day that you are grateful for. Write out the vision for your life and speak it out loud at least 3 times a day – upon waking, during your lunch hour and before bedtime. The intentional act of daily writing triggers the brain to do something new…to believe something new.  Affirm your truth and unplug the autopilot!

Spread the Love

spread_the_love_by_lacerationlove

“Love is patient and kind” – spread the LOVE!

“Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude” – spread the LOVE, even when it is hard!

“Love is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged” – release them, and spread the LOVE!

“Love does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out” – celebrate truth and spread the LOVE!

“Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance” – don’t skip a day, just SPREAD THE LOVE DAILY!

The Scriptures make it very plain what love is…and when we exercise our faith to walk this out, the level of freedom, connection and passion is your life will expand tremendously! Explore each of these statements and intentionally set your mind to walk it out for 7 consecutive days.

intentional

At this point is should be clear that living our habits is a choice that has become unconscious. No parents want to forget their child in a store, but when we allow our minds to run ahead of us and forfeit the gift of presence, we project an image into our environment that is not true. If you are ready to disconnect the autopilot button and replace it with INTENTION, I challenge you to start working on these steps, DAILY…not every other day…not once a month…not for some set religious expression of devotion at a certain time of the year, but DAILY…right now!

Just breathe, write down your gifts and spread the LOVE!!!

Writing The Narrative without Words

Whenever life presents me with a buffet of challenges, triumphs, possibility and pains, I write a narrative. Sometimes it is literal, like this blog. Other times, it is mental and non-verbal. I have a few tools that I use to create this ‘mental narrative’ and I want to share one of them with you today!

“Help me to SEE farther than I can LOOK”

Whenever my physical circumstances project an image that is not aligned with the vision I have for my life, I mentally replace what I SEE with what I BELIEVE. When my body attempts to manifest sickness, I choose to believe in my healing. When finances are challnged, I choose to believe in my abundance.

Is this mental shift easy? No…

Is this mental shift necessary? YES!

Taking 15 minutes out of my day to visualize the life I believe to be true and in alignment with my purpose changes the narrative. It causes my subconscious mind to ponder the two options before it and decide what will be our focus. The consistent, repetitive thought will win every time! It does not matter if you feel it is positive or negative. The frequency of a thought will determine your belief. When I consistently think that I am unworthy of happiness, guess what? Your body will believe it and live that belief! Speaking one belief and thinking on another is called double-mindedness…And you know what you can expect from that decision? Nothing that you truly desire!

It is not a life I want to live, do you? So, what can you do RIGHT NOW to change your narrative? Here is one tool for your toolkit!

Visualization Application Steps:

  1. Find a quiet, secluded space to sit where you know you will not be disturbed for at least 15 minutes. Close the door if applicable and turn off all distractions…Yes, that means your phone!
  2. Position yourself in a chair with a supportive back or sit on the floor with your back against the wall for support. Make sure you hands and legs are relaxed and comfortable.
  3. Think about what your IDEAL day. You know, the day where everything is flowing and you are connected and engaged with God, yourself and people. Get a good concept in your mind. Now, take 5 deep breaths…Slowly…
  4. Close your eyes.
  5. See yourself on your IDEAL day. What are you wearing? What do you smell? What do you see and hear? Are you walking down a city street with a coffee cup listening to some acoustic soul? Are you in your home office, excited about the people you will serve today? What are you doing IN DETAIL.
  6. (Best step of all) Allow your mind to freely play out that entire day. Waking up, getting ready, getting into your car, the conversations you have, the smell of the flowers as you walk past a garden. I mean, there are no boundaries or limits on the awesomeness of this IDEAL day.
  7. Open your eyes and take steps to BE that person you just visualized!

I promise that this exerciae, if done with consistency and passion, will radically change your perspective for your life and the possibilities that are available to you!
